Our 16-day itinerary is designed to help you plan your motorhome holiday around New Zealand's North Island.
Use it as a starting point and tailor-make the experience by adding or removing destinations. If you have more time, there are plenty of additional places to see along the way.

DAY 1 - 2
Fly to Auckland in the North Island with Air New Zealand via Los Angeles. Why not enjoy a stopover and see the bright lights of Hollywood?
DAY 3 - 4
Arrive in Auckland and stay in a hotel to explore the city and adjust to the time difference. Whizz to the top of the Sky Tower to take in the sights, and sip a celebratory holiday beverage in the Sky Lounge as the sun sets.
Pick up your motorhome and begin your New Zealand North Island journey by crossing the Coromandel Peninsula, heading to Whitianga, where the glorious coves and beaches of Mercury Bay await. Pause at Miranda's hot springs and bird sanctuary en route.
Call in at Waihi, a gold mining town, then continue to Mount Manganui in the Bay of Plenty, nestled in the foothills of an extinct volcanic cone. Enjoy the sweeping beaches and look out for dolphins off the coast.
DAY 7 - 8
The city of Rotorua, also known as Sulphur City, sits squarely on the Pacific Ring of Fire. It's renowned for its geothermal activity, geysers and hot mud pools, and is rich in Maori culture.
Follow the coast eastwards to the harbour city of Gisborne, a great place for tasting regional wines.
DAY 10
Skirt around the east coast and travel south to Napier in Hawkes Bay, a bustling city with palm-lined streets and an attractive harbour. Hawke's Bay is also a celebrated wine region.
DAY 11
Visit Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Explore its attractive harbour and savour its galleries and performing arts scene. If you only visit one museum in New Zealand, make it the Te Papa museum - highly recommended to understand the culture and history of the country.
DAY 12
Follow the Kapiti Coast route around the southwest to Wanganui and take a cruise on the Wanganui River - the longest navigable river in New Zealand.
DAY 13
Continue in a northwesterly direction towards New Plymouth. The distinctive volcanic cone of Mount Taranaki provides a dramatic and photographic backdrop to the city, while the hiking trails of Egmont National Park are just a short drive away.
DAY 14
Visit the Waitomo Caves and its famous glow-worms.
DAY 15
Before returning to Auckland, stop at Takapuna for a night and ease springs in this chic, vibrant seaside town.
DAY 16
Return your motorhome and catch the evening flight from Auckland back to London via Hong Kong. Add an extra dimension to your trip and spend a couple of nights in this incredible non-stop city.
