It's a nature lovers' paradise where you can swim with the world's largest fish - the whale shark - or snorkel with manta rays at Ningaloo Reef. Walk amongst tree tops along the south west coast or explore the beehive-like formations of the Bungle Bungles in the north west Kimberley region with the help of an Aboriginal guide.
Towns and cities have plenty to offer too. Western Australia's capital, Perth, is four hours closer to the UK than Sydney and the sunniest city in Australia. Broome is celebrated for its exotic pearling history and stunning beaches; Fremantle is full of rich maritime history and just a short boat ride from car-free Rottnest Island, while the Margaret River region has become a centre for gourmet food and wine experiences.
