    Continue to San Francisco (48 miles) one of those cities that need no introduction and enjoys international renown for everything from sightseeing to shopping to entertainment.

    Free day to explore San Francisco. Why not take a cruise out to Alcatraz? Be sure to take a trip on one of the tramways up and down the famous San Francisco hills.

    Leave the big city and head along the coast on State Highway 1, one of America's most famous roads, the Big Sur and look out on the Pacific Ocean. Pass through Monterey and Carmel, whose former mayors include Clint Eastwood (119 miles).

    Continue along the coast to Pismo Beach (144 miles). Drive along the Big Sur or call in at Hearst Castle, a National Historic Landmark built for the newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Overnight Pismo Beach campsite.

    Time to get a real taste of the Californian dream as we head to Malibu Beach, home to many movie stars and famous for its fantastic beaches (155 miles). Overnight Malibu Beach Campsite.

    Day 20
    Free day in Malibu Beach, why not take a day just lazing on the beach? If you have ever fancied trying windsurfing, this is the place to be. Overnight Malibu Beach campsite.
    Day 21
    A change of scene but an equally nice beach as we head to Newport Beach near to Back Bay Nature Reserve (70 miles). Giant Blue and Finback whales have become regular visitors to this section of California's coast and whale watching trips are organised in Newport Beach.

    Free day to explore the area around Newport Beach. Evening Farewell Meal.

    A short drive (29 miles) back to Los Angeles to return your motorhome and take the evening flight to the UK.
