    DAYS 1 - 2

    Fly from London to Beijing, meet your Tour Escorts and transfer to your central hotel. This evening enjoy an authentic Chinese welcome banquet with your fellow travellers

    DAY 3

    Enjoy a full day guided sightseeing tour of Beijing including Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

    DAY 4

    After breakfast you will be taken to apply for your driving permit, followed by a visit to the supermarket to stock up for your trip. Afterwards transfer to the motorhome depot to pick up your vehicle. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

    DAY 5

    Travel to Datong to visit the World Heritage Site – Yungang Grottoes. Wonder at their 252 caves and 51,000 statues. In the afternoon drive to Jinhuagong Mineral Museum to park up for the night.

    DAY 6

    This morning visit Jinhuagong Mineral Museum where you can tour the tunnels and see the mine's coal factory.

    DAY 7

    If you choose to visit the Hanging Temple, be aware that there are lots of steps and confined spaces. Drive to the Yanmenguan Pass and camp in view of the Great Wall.

    DAY 8

    Walk along the iconic Great Wall this morning or get a birds eye view by helicopter (optional). This afternoon’s drive will take you to Lijiashan Village, to see cave dwellings carved into the mountains. 

    DAYS 9 -10

    Today you will have free time to visit Ancient Lijiashan Village. Most of the houses here have more than five hundred years of history. They are on nine levels of terrace hills; the stairs connecting them are all from the Ming Dynasty. Leave Lijiashan to travel to Jingbian Wave Valley where you can explore some of China’s most amazing landscapes, formed gradually over time from the erosion of red sandstone.

    DAY 11

    Enjoy this morning’s drive to the Yuca Grand Canyon, one of the natural wonders of the Loess Plateau with its various textures and shapes.

    DAY 12

    Today’s drive will take you to Hukou to see the spectacular Hukou Waterfalls.

    DAY 13

    Continue to Xi’an for an excursion to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Muslim Snack Street and the Great Mosque. For dinner you will be able to enjoy the world known Jiaozi (Dumpling) Banquet.

    DAY 14

    Morning at leisure take time to go shopping and stock up on groceries. Later, short drive to Lington. This evening you can watch Song of Everlasting Sorrow a dance and music show that tells the love story of a Chinese emperor.

    DAY 15

    Today is a real highlight of the trip as you visit the Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Later drive to Luoyang.

    DAY 16

    Visit the Longmen Grottoes to marvel at some of the finest examples of Chinese Buddhist art, as well as the Shaolin Temple which is a school of Buddhism.

    DAY 17

    Drive to the Wang Mang Ridge Scenery Tourist Area which consists of more than 50 peaks of various heights. Enroute visit the House of the Huangcheng Chancellor, known as the ‘Greatest Cultural Residence in North China’ .

    DAYS 18 - 19

    Rise early to admire the spectacular landscape at sunrise taking in the steep cliffs and waterfalls. Take the shuttle bus to visit the Guabi Highway, a section of highway carved into the mountains. In the afternoon drive to Pingyao where the following day you will visit the Ancient Town, an exceptionally well-preserved example of a traditional Han Chinese city and UNESCO World Heritage Centre. Free time in the afternoon to wander the city at your leisure and try some of the fabulous street food on offer.

    DAY 20

    Today’s drive will take you to Taiyuan where you can visit the 1,000 year old Shuanglin Temple founded in the 6th century, a UNESCO World Heritage site notable for its collection of more than 2,000 decorated clay statues.

    DAY 21

    Spectacular scenery awaits you at Baishi National Geographical Park another UNESCO site. It is particularly well known for its appearance during overcast days when the tops of nearby peaks can be seen jutting out from low lying clouds and mist.

    DAY 22

    Drive back to Beijing to return your motorhomes transfer to a hotel for the night. This evening you will enjoy a farewell meal with your fellow travellers.

    Arrive in London. This ends tour arrangements.

    • Drivers must be under 70 years old by completion of motorhome rental. Also, obtaining a Chinese driving permit involves a simple eye test at a local hospital - all part of the experience!
    • There is only one campsite on this tour – all other overnight stops are on specially selected car parks that provide a functional base and easy access to places of interest. This means you rarely access your overnight stop until late afternoon and may also attract local attention when parked up!
    • Tour participants will therefore use the motorhome bathroom facilities at all times as car park washroom facilities are of varying quality and not always convenient. Emptying and filling up water supplies needs to be done on a daily basis.
    • Electric hook-ups are only occasionally available, so motorhome equipment runs off the leisure battery. A support vehicle travels with the group, providing assistance if needed.
